Dr. Brenda Ellens DVM CVA has a special interest in Eastern Medicine. She received her Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture in 2010 allowing her to bring the benefits of Eastern medicine to her patients. She is a firm advocate of integrative medicine, the use of both traditional western medicine and eastern medicine including acupuncture, Tui Na, and herbal therapy.
Dr.Ellens is a native of southeast Michigan. She attended Our Lady of Mercy High School in Farmington Hills followed by Michigan State University for both undergraduate and Veterinary School. During three of her summers off from the University, she was granted the opportunity to work at Mayo Clinic under the tutelage of Dr. Paul Zollman, where she honed her surgical skills, participated in various studies and was the sole trainer of four black bear cubs.
After her 1991 graduation from MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine, she took a position in a suburb of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania as a general practitioner and support veterinarian for the local humane societies. Dr. Ellens worked throughout the Pittsburg area as a full-time associate, relief veterinarian, as well as owner and operator of a house call practice for 12 years. Upon returning to Michigan in 2002, Dr. Ellens spent 11 years as an emergency room Veterinarian, again providing relief work for local veterinarians.
